HOW TO DEAL WITH REJECTIONS

Rejection may be disheartening and disappointing, especially if you know you have tried very hard and overcome a lot to apply for the role. However, rejection does not mean the end and should not be taken as such. Below are a few ways to overcome rejection and persevere.

01

It might not be you

Although rejection does feel personal, it is not always because of you that you didn’t get the job. You may have performed excellently, but just not been what the company was looking for. If you have gotten feedback and there has been nothing but positives, take it with a smile. The job market is very tough and if you know you did the best you could and everything else was up to scratch; dust yourself off and onwards you go.

02

Ask for detailed feedback

You can learn a lot from a job rejection by reflecting on what may have gone wrong, and what you could do differently next time. Asking your recruiter for detailed feedback can greatly help with this process, perhaps providing ideas or solutions that would not have occurred to you through independent self-reflection.

03

Review and reflect on your application process

You may need to sit back and review your application process: this includes filling out the application form, your CV and the cover letter, the interview and any tests. Think carefully about if there were any parts that you were unsure about or felt you may have rushed. Using the detailed feedback, you can further build on this application, making it the best that it can be. Ensuring that the next time you apply for a role, you feel fully confident.

04

Don’t give up

Although it may be disheartening to be rejected from a job that you thought was perfect for you and that you feel you prepared immensely for, you must be reliant and persevere. The perfect job is definitely out there for you and you must not let rejections lower your confidence and self assurance. Instead, choose to strengthen your application and work on anything that may be letting it down.
